Bonneville Bound: Melted Metal

Sorry for the lack of updates but it has been a somewhat hectic week. Pictures will come soon.



Building continues, as we reinforced and extended the frame over the weekend. Chase spent most of saturday night welding upside down and at odd angles while the newest member of the team, Chris a family friend, joined in the ongoing engineering discussion as we designed and debated over rear suspension mounts. We are trying out different methods of reinforcement along known weak points and joints. We have been eyeing ideas from past LSR builds from successful teams such as a vertical stabilizer and bodywork construction. Frame work continues but the rear portion should be finished fairly soon and then we start on the front.

Bonneville Bound: Fabrication

Few parts exsist for the purpose of building a world record capable machine so we must use our own talents and combine our experience and engineering skills to make this happen. For the record we are attempting to break we must not only be able to surpass the current world record but be able to do it consistantly and above all else safely. This is but a small glimpse into the fabrication, design and engineering that is going into this project.

The stabilizers are needed to prevent possible side to side movement
while at speed which could lead to fish tailing and crashing.

Bonneville Bound: The First Days

In 2008 the idea was put forward that we would attempt to join the 130mph club at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. Sadly the dream has had to wait but now we are pursueing it once more and this time not onlyare we going for the 130mph club, we are going to set a new World Land Speed record for a 500cc motor. We are currently designing our own "Lakester" from scratch, everything from the frame to the A-Arms. Most of this project is coming out of our own pockets which will make this project all the more enjoyable to accomplish but any help is more than welcome, and we will gladly recognize everyone that helps.
